Within the last decade, there has been an explosion of interest in the science of music, as a new generation of scientists has developed the tools to discover the intimate connections between music and human life. The resulting discoveries reveal compelling evidence that music truly is a fundamental aspect of life, something that defines us and binds us together as humans. We are now creating a future in which music will be recognized as a force far more significant than mere entertainment

Every day we are gaining a deeper understanding of this art-form that so profoundly affects our imagination, our spirit, and even our physiology. For centuries, philosophers and musicians themselves have speculated about music, seeking to explain its magic. Yet it is only recently that science has joined in the exploration in earnest. We know instinctively that music has primal power. Historians and anthropologists have yet to discover a culture without music. Music predates agriculture—and perhaps even language. The foundations of music have been traced as far back as existence itself, to the birth of our universe.

The origin of sound reveals the origin of all creation

According to top ranking quantum physics, throughout the world, all matter at the subatomic level is in a state of constant vibration, our world is vibrated into existence. Oscillation is the most energy- efficient movement. That is why all matter oscillates – not only each atom but also the Solar System and our galaxy. The Universe is a vast musical instrument that is in a constant state of vibration.

“We are vibration. No exceptions. But it’s not only sound and music. Colors, shapes, movements, fragrances, thoughts, all have vibratory make-up. Electromagnetic events are just as ‘musical’ as sound. Colors sing. It’s clear that sound and ALL vibration, then, must intimately be connected to health and well-being. Once we realize the scope of this our reality changes forever.” Entering the Great Sound Current and Riding the Wave by Susan Alexjander, MA www.oursounduniverse.com

Harmonics are inherent within all sounds.

Anything that vibrates, produces sound and creates harmonics: the sound of waves crashing on the shore, the wind blowing through Aspen leaves or the sound of our voice all has harmonics. In fact, harmonics are what give our speaking voices their individuality. Also known as overtones, harmonics are mathematically interrelated ratios or intervals that are created when striking any fundamental note

Regularly listening to harmonics, and especially if we create them with our own voice, as in chanting or toning, can alter our states of consciousness to expand our perception of “reality”.

Healing – whether emotional, psychological, spiritual or physical – is an act of re- creation. It is the process of re-organizing our being toward its intended state of dynamic equilibrium

“ Natural Harmonic Sound is important because it brings people together, to sing and to dance to rejoice to grieve to praise and all of these things have a very natural sound. There is something about this natural harmonic geometry for the ears.

Harmony can just re-frame the mind whether we are new here to the earth or if we are in our ninth decade

First, —- harmony is healthy, Harmony is based on the physics and mathematics of certain proportions a 5th a 4th, a major 3rd and minor 3rd and the body knows it instinctively and this is one of the things that really has created the art and lyricism within the beauty of music.”

Don Campbell; author “Healing at the Speed of Sound’ 2011 http://www.healingatthespeedofsound.com/teleseminar.jsp

Longing to be surrounded and enveloped, we are told, goes back to the womb, the primal immersion experience. Two art forms are said to offer immersion—architecture and music. But this is being unfair to landscape design, even more so to nature, especially in a disruptive world. The “restorative” value of immersion in nature has been noted more frequently in recent years.[1] Nature offers a welcome contrast from urban noise, auditory and visual, and from the virtual world. Who does not enjoy the sounds of nature—a fountain, a waterfall, the wind blowing through pine needles, birds singing—and feel better for it? Immersion in nature, taking in the full multisensory experience, has the power to restore emotional wellness and reduce stress. The more multisensory the experience, we are told, the more deeply we are touched and our spirits uplifted, and the more powerful our memory. Then what could be more natural and powerful than experiencing music in nature? The convergence of sensory immersions—one visually spatial, the other acoustically spatial—works its own mysterious harmonics in what happens between them, within us. In immersion this intense lies rejuvenation, perhaps even redemption. –Tom Paine ASLA, AGER Group Inc., Boston, Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong

Galileo wrote that “geometric shapes are the alphabet in which the book of nature is written.” Geometry is nature’s language of relationship.

Sacred geometry literally means “the measure of the earth.” It holds the key to how non-physical energy creates the manifest world through specific patterns of subtle energy.

These geometric codes or universal laws of vibration, contain the musical, mathematical and archetypal patterns that govern and influence our formative universe and create harmony and coherence.

What is Sound?

“The universe is alive with sound and within all sounds are harmonics. Harmonics, also known as “overtones” are a phenomenon of sound that occurs whenever sound is created. Normally we perceive what seems like single tones when we hear a note struck on a musical instrument. However, nearly all tones that are produced by musical instruments, our voices or other sound sources are in reality not pure tones, but mixtures of pure tone frequencies called partials. The lowest such frequency is called the fundamental and all partials higher in frequency than the fundamental are referred to as overtones or harmonics. Overtones are present in our voices and in fact, they are responsible for our own unique speaking and singing qualities” commonly referred to as a frequency signature.

Pythagoras, (the 6th Century Greek Master of mathematics and harmonics) spoke of the Music of the Spheres.

“He taught that the movements of the heavenly bodies traveling through the universe created sounds. These sounds could be perceived by those who had been consciously trained to hear them.

“Recently, scientists using advanced mathematical principles based on the orbital velocities of the planets have equated different sounds with different planets. Amazingly, they seem to be all harmonically interrelated.

“Anything that vibrates creates harmonics. Since the universe is composed of nothing but vibrations, everything creates fundamental tones and harmonics, ranging from electrons orbiting around atoms to planets orbiting around the sun.
Pythagoras applied his law or harmonic intervals to all the phenomena of nature, demonstrating the harmonic relationship between the elements, the planets and the constellations.” — Power of Harmonics by Jonathan Goldman

Cymatics

The study of the resonance patterns of different sound frequencies, which is known as CYMATICS shows in detail the amazing power of sound and how it changes and shapes the structure of matter. The Article – Sound Insights by Jeff Volk -http://www.cymaticsource.com/articles.html, click for Sound Insights pdf explains in detail this universal principle.

Every form of matter is an outer and lower reflection of the inherent geometric information which flows from a higher order. Hence it is not the matter itself that is responsible for its energy content but the geometry of the energy field that structures the matter.

Sacred Geometry and Wind Harp Design

Our intention in designing the Wind Harp is to create a structure that is not only sensitive
enough to resonate with the geometry of nature but also resonate with the geometric
structure of the listener. Towards this end one of the primary design models we use is
the Vesica, which is incorporated into the Infiniti series of Wind Harps. We use what is
considered a three dimensional Vesica which creates the form of the trinity or triune. We
have found this simple geometry to not only be very aesthetically pleasing to the eye but
also lends itself to a stringing configuration that allows for tuning the harp in resonance
with a natural harmonic sequence.

Square root of 3 and the Vesica Pisces

The Vesica Pisces is formed by the intersection of two circles or spheres whose centers exactly touch. This symbolic intersection represents the “common ground”, or “shared vision” between equal but separate individuals. i.e. “The Truth is what the opposites share in common.” The Vesica is the perfect balance between the yin and yang; it is the 3rd force that transcends duality. The shape of the human eye itself is a Vesica Pisces. The spiritual significance of “seeing eye to eye” into the “mirror of the soul” was highly regarded by numerous Renaissance artists who used this form extensively in art and architecture. The ratio of the axes of the form is the square root of 3, which alludes to the deepest nature of the triune, this cannot be adequately expressed as a finite number. If the width of the Vesica is unity then the height is the square root of 3 = 1.7320508 ~ ∞ which is considered a transcendental number because it will never resolve itself.

The Platonic Solids
The 5 Platonic solids (Tetrahedron, Cube or (Hexahedron), Octahedron, Dodecahedron & Icosahedron) are primal models of crystal patterns that occur throughout the world of minerals in countless variations. To the Greeks, these solids symbolized fire, earth, air, spirit (or ether) and water respectively. The cube and octahedron are duals, meaning that one can be created by connecting the midpoints of the faces of the other. The icosahedron and dodecahedron are also duals of each other, and three mutually perpendicular, mutually bisecting golden rectangles can be drawn connecting their vertices and midpoints, respectively. The tetrahedron is a dual to itself.

We are intrinsically connected to the wind for it is an omnipresent attribute of the atmosphere that sustains us. The wind / (breath) is the fluidium of energy flux within our material existence that connects us to all life. The “Unified Field Theory ” states that everything is connected on a vibrational or energetic level and the wind functions as a dynamic medium of energy transfer that is always seeking balance and harmony within our planetary and human ecosystem.

The Wind Harp plays a part of this whole and functions as an aesthetic portal of expression or channel for this fluidium. The wind harp acts as a receiver and a transmitter of the vibration of the wind for it transforms the energy of the wind into audible harmonic sound.

The wind is important as it relates to our enjoyment of the fruits of this earthly existence , such as art and music, The Wind harp functions as a unifying principle through the synergy of the art and music of the natural world.

The wind picks up and we know that there is change on the way “The Winds of Change” , – – – – “The Answer my Friend is Blow’in in the Wind” . Wind is all about change, It’s all about shifts in the pressure gradient which changes the weather. It’s a direct effect of the rotation of the earth that ultimately generates the spin that drives the vortex action of every weather system.

Wind carries the vibration of change, and there is no weather change without the wind . This can manifest in a multitude of ways and the sound of the wind harp consequently will express itself in multifarious ways. The wind lets us know something is shifting, it lets us know something is going to happen. Throughout the centuries people knew that the wind predicted the future and it was perceived as an ORACLE. It told a story in an unspoken but audible language , for “those who had ears to hear” , using the medium of harmonic sound.

“The highest aim of our music is to reveal the essence of the universe it reflects”
- Ravi Shankar
